Post DKP
We were going to hold off on this for a week or so, but given the circumstances, we thought we ought to bring it forward:

The officers have been worried for some time about the quantity of items which are unconventional upgrades to existing specs that instead get DEed because people don't want to spend DKP on them. There's two sides to this argument; on the one hand, we have to appreciate that people have a clear list of their own desires for drops from an instance - on the other, however, we're getting increasingly aware that there are fights upcoming which may require unconventional gear, in particular stamina sets to allow for increased raidwide damage - and we're being a bit more pro-active in trying to encourage people to get such items now so we don't have to farm our brains out for them later.

Back in Gruul's on Tuesday I mentioned that something Weepriestey said sounded familiar; and it was because we'd been discussing that very thing in the officer forums for this purpose for some time:

We're going to make it possible to purchase items in raids with gold donations to the guildbank.

Understand that there are going to be significant rules tied to this; we don't want people to game the system; progression items for your own spec will only be purchasable by DKP.

A brief outline of the rules:

Needs are purchased with DKP. DKP Greeds are purchased with DKP, other Greeds are purchased with gold.

Needs will always get priority over Greeds.
DKP Greeds will get priority over other Greeds.
You may always choose to Need or DKP Greed on an item if you want it badly, which will get priority over those who wish to Greed.
DKP will only be earned on Needs or DKP Greeds
Items considered by the officers to be a genuine upgrade to your main character's main spec have to be purchased with DKP
Probationary Needs are still inferior to other Needs but now are superior to Greeds.
Sidegrades - defined as an item for which you already have a PvE item of similar or higher iLvl in the same slot - may be Greeded.
Offspec items may be Greeded.
Alts may Greed.
Guests can only ever Greed.

No preference will be given to any greeder; such loot will be distributed via random roll.

Items will be charged as a straight swap of DKP cost of the item to gold. An item costing 12.34 DKP will cost 12G; we'll round down to avoid having to deal with fiddly small change.

Those of you who've already donated financially to the guildbank: Armory allows us to see the total deposits/withdrawals per person. If you're in credit there, that will be regarded as credit towards any item purchases; you won't have to pay twice. There will be no penalty for people who are in debt with the guildbank (presumably due to mass repairs) at first, although we'll keep an eye on this to see if people are exploiting it too much.

Other DKP comments:
Our previous plans to take Gruul off the DKP system have been superceded by this; it allows important items like the Dragonspine Trophy to still hold their worth while also hopefully allowing more of the gear to be spread around.
At some point soon we'll have to do a renormalisation of the DKP, some impurities have crept in meaning that it's not currently properly 0-sum. This'll be an across-the-board change; you will find that your absolute DKP value will change, possibly quite significantly - I've not yet done the maths so I don't know in which direction it will go - people's positions relative to one another should remain intact.
This is unlikely to be the last change to DKP, we're planning a few other things.

Good god, this thread is old. Anyway...

We've switched our lootsystem from DKP to EPGP. Insert quote from the EPGP website:
Quote:
In plain English, in a traditional DKP system you receive effort points that increase your DKP pool and spend them to receive loot which decreases your DKP pool. The person with the largest DKP pool has the most buying power. In EPGP, you receive effort points but you also receive loot points. These are separate from each other and your buying power is defined by your effort points divided by your loot/gear points.

For more information on the system and the math behind it, go here.

I've been using DKP in my previous guild - it's my first encounter with EPGP here and so far I like it very much  Fast way of sorting loot and fair - IMO.
